1. Information Bookmark Shelf handles

Bookmark Shelf processes information that is necessary to save, organise, search, open, import, back up and optionally synchronise bookmarks.

Bookmark Shelf does not intentionally request or collect your name, postal address, payment-card details, health records, personal communications, precise GPS location or government identification numbers.

2. How information is used

The information described above is used only to provide Bookmark Shelf’s single purpose:

• Save webpages selected by the user.
• Organise bookmarks into folders and subfolders.
• Add and display tags, notes and favourites.
• Search saved bookmarks using titles, URLs, tags, notes and saved page content.
• Display favicons to help users recognise saved websites.
• Import existing Chrome bookmarks when requested.
• Export and restore bookmark backups.
• Optionally synchronise bookmarks between devices after the user enables sync.
• Maintain the reliability, integrity and security of the extension.

3. Local storage and processing

Bookmark Shelf stores its primary bookmark library locally in the browser’s extension storage, including IndexedDB. Local information may include saved URLs, titles, extracted webpage text, folders, tags, notes, favourites and search-index information.

The core extension can operate without transmitting this library to the developer or to a cloud service. Removing the extension may remove data stored in the extension’s local storage. Users should export a backup before uninstalling the extension if they want to retain their library.

4. Optional Firebase synchronisation

Cloud synchronisation is optional and is not required for Bookmark Shelf’s core features. When a user chooses to configure and enable Firebase sync, bookmark and folder records may be transmitted to Google Firebase services so that the user can access or merge their library across devices.

Depending on the configuration, Firebase processing may include:

• An anonymous Firebase user identifier.
• Authentication and refresh tokens.
• Bookmark, folder, tag, note and synchronisation metadata.
• Technical request information ordinarily processed by an internet service, such as an IP address.

Firebase is operated by Google and processes information according to Google’s applicable terms and privacy documentation. Bookmark Shelf uses Firebase only to provide the optional synchronisation feature selected by the user.

5. Chrome extension permissions

activeTab

Used when the user opens Bookmark Shelf or chooses to save the current page, allowing the extension to obtain information such as the active page’s title and URL.

scripting

Used after the user chooses to save a page so Bookmark Shelf can extract relevant page information and readable text for saving and local search.

storage

Used to retain extension settings, preferences and optional synchronisation configuration across browser sessions.

unlimitedStorage

Used because larger bookmark libraries, extracted text, backup information and search indexes may exceed ordinary extension-storage limits.

bookmarks

Used when the user chooses to import existing Chrome bookmarks and preserve their folder structure.

alarms

Used for controlled periodic background tasks, including optional synchronisation checks when sync has been enabled.

favicon

Used to display the website icon associated with a saved bookmark so that users can recognise it more easily.

Optional website and Firebase access

Broader host access and Firebase service access are requested only when a feature that requires them is used, such as extracting content from a user-selected page or enabling Firebase synchronisation.

6. Data sharing, transfers and sale

Bookmark Shelf does not sell user data.

User data is not transferred to third parties for advertising, marketing, data brokerage, behavioural profiling, creditworthiness decisions or unrelated purposes.

Information may be processed by service providers only where necessary to provide a feature selected by the user, such as Google Firebase for optional cloud synchronisation, or where required by law.

7. Data retention and deletion

Local bookmark information remains in the extension’s browser storage until the user deletes it, clears extension data or uninstalls Bookmark Shelf.

Users can delete individual bookmarks and folders through Bookmark Shelf. Users can also export a backup before deleting local data.

When optional Firebase sync is enabled, synchronised data may remain in the connected Firebase project until it is deleted through the extension’s available deletion functions or removed in response to a valid deletion request.

8. Data security

Bookmark Shelf uses reasonable technical measures designed to protect locally stored and synchronised information. These measures include keeping the core library local by default, limiting permissions to extension functions and using authenticated requests for optional Firebase synchronisation.

No method of storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should protect access to their browser profile and devices and keep exported backup files in a secure location.

9. Children’s privacy

Bookmark Shelf is a general productivity tool and is not directed specifically to children. The developer does not knowingly use the extension to collect personal information from children for advertising, profiling or commercial data-sale purposes.

10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

Bookmark Shelf’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Information obtained through Chrome APIs is used only to provide and improve the extension’s user-facing bookmark-management functions. It is not used for personalised advertising, transferred to data brokers, used to determine creditworthiness, or used for purposes unrelated to Bookmark Shelf’s single purpose.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This policy may be updated when Bookmark Shelf’s features, data practices, permissions or legal obligations change. The updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.

Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate method, such as the extension’s listing, release notes or in-product notice where reasonably necessary.
